Give It Another Try

So we're switching doctors.
Again.
The last one was just not on top of things. Never called us to make appointments; didn't check up with us after blood tests. The new one is supposed to be much warmer. (Well, she is a woman...)
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. And hope that she's the right messenger.
But I guess what I'm most scared of is to go through a procedure that was done by the other doctor. At that time, I couldn't move for about an hour after this seemingly simple procedure. I was in massive pain, doubled over, crying my heart out. The doctor said he never saw such a bad reaction to this procedure. And now, it'll have to be done again.
I'm terrified. I have a very low pain tolerance. The rest of the stuff I do is bad enough, but this... I think the pain was akin to childbirth. (that's what I was told when I described my reaction to a professional in the field)
Ouch. Help me, please?!?

Not knowing what the procedure is, I'm not sure I can give any real advice. However, if you can tell your new doctor about your previous experience and ask what you can take beforehand (obscene amounts of ibuprofen?) or if she can prescribe something for you take beforehand (oxycodone?) maybe she can help you out.

Also, if you haven't already, maybe ask over at atime.org

Thinking of you... Hope this time it goes easier, smoother, as painlessly as possible and with much bracha.

We are all hurting for you. I just discovered your blog, but feel your pain. Stay strong and keep focusing on the end result, IYH.

i'm with anonymous about the drugs, but sometimes knowing what the pain will be makes it easier. try channeling your fear into some sort of mantra to prepare yourself and help get you through it.
may this switch bring you all the happiness you yearn for.

I'm hoping for you...and davening for you! It hurts to read how painful this is for you...

Just remember that the same One who created you also gives you the physical strength to go through whatever painful things He feels you need to go through. Childbirth is plenty painful and if He created a woman with a body the way He did, He also gave her the ability to handle it, no matter how much it hurts and how painful it is.

I agree with those who suggested finding out about pain medication beforehand and hoping that this time round your body will react positively and it will be a smooth and painless procedure that yields real results - the ones you were hoping for all this time.

Hatzlacha and know that my thoughts and tefillos are with you!

Thanks for all your chizuk and advice.

Shana, thanks. I will need them.

Anonymous, that's a given. And last time, I hadn't taken any pain meds because it was such a simple procedure. I'm really bad with the pain thing. And my previous doctor told me that he'd never seen someone as bad as I was, nor had he heard of anyone like this, so I doubt atime would be helpful in this case. I am registered there, but generally don't comment.

MW, thanks.

SIR, thank you. Amen.

LD, welcome to my blog! I'll try...

CS, for me, knowing about the pain makes it stronger. My mantra will be pain meds. :-)

Devorah, thank you for your words of encouragement.

It's pain toward a good cause hopefully.

I had a kidney stone attack a few years back..and all I got was a dumb little pebble.

Hi SC,

I've been following your blog for some time now, and what you've been writing has really been hitting home for me (on a smaller scale, in some ways.)

I actually have something I wanted to tell you about (concerning what you wrote about in this post), but I don't think the appropriate place would be in a comments box. I didn't see an email address where you can be reached, though. Is there a way I can contact you? Or would you rather contact me?

Wishing you all the best,
SS

Hi Still Smiling,

I haven't posted an email address because I really don't want to "out" myself.
I'd probably want to contact you more than giving an email address, but I'm not sure I'd even want to do that.

I'll see.
