Sugar & Spice (and everything nice)

Giant lollipops grow higher still
I long to pick each stem at will
And in this garden in my mind
I choose to lick each one in kind

Alas, my dream is not to be
For sugar is forbidden to me

At Chinese restaurants so fine
There is a dish that's quite divine
Batter dipped with sesame
I cannot help myself, you see

Alas, my dish is not to be
For sugar is forbidden to me

On Yom Tov, my mom does roast
A piece of meat, and dare I boast
This brisket's one that's sweet and tender
All the good stuff I remember

Alas, my meat is not to be
For sugar is forbidden to me

But spices, yes they take the cake (literally)
Oregano and pepper flake
Parsley, dill, basil, mint
Chives and garlic, salt (a hint)

I sprinkle these on liberally
'Cept on dessert, because fruit is "free"

But still, I dream of white flour
While whole wheat muffins I devour

It's funny, I've been off sugar for so many years now I don't even think about it. It can be really hard though, at that you mention it.

No sugar? At all? Wow. How about those sugar substitutes?

Truth is, thinking about it now, I think I'd miss salt more than sugar.

(Very cute poem. Sorry though...)

SD, I'm not comparing myself to you at all. It's totally different for me. But yes, it's hard.

SIR, no sugar at all. (though I have to admit that I cheat at times.) And the sugar substitutes are almost as bad for me as the regular sugar. Fructose (natural sugar) is not much of a problem, so uncooked fruit it usually not a big deal. Cooked is a bit different, but I allow myself that bit of luxury.

This poem is a really sweet one! I like it a lot. :-)

I don't know how you manage without sugar! Like I say, I don't have a sweet tooth, I have sweet teeth!!

Your ability to rhyme is incredible

I'm sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to compare at all.

No offense taken.
